Monlam AI (“we”, “us”, “the App”) is the mobile application published on Google Play and the Apple App Store as Monlam AI. It is developed and operated by Monlam, the developer account shown on our store listings.
Monlam AI showcases Tibetan language AI tools—including translation, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and optical character recognition (OCR)—along with product information about our Melong model and in-app news content. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use the App on Android, iOS, or other supported platforms, and your choices.

Host this page at a public HTTPS URL (for example
https://monlamai.studio/privacy-policy) and enter that URL in Google Play Console under
App content → Privacy policy and in App Store Connect under your app’s privacy policy field.
The same URL is linked from the App under More → Privacy Policy.
1) Summary — the short version
Monlam AI sends the text, audio, and images you choose to use with our features to Monlam’s servers
(api-v1.monlamai.studio and related endpoints) so we can run translation, transcription,
speech synthesis, and OCR. We do not sell your personal information and we do
not show third-party advertising in the App.
- No account required today — the App does not require you to sign in to use core tools. We do not ask for your name or email in the current version.
- Content you submit — text you translate, audio you record or upload, images you capture or select, and text you convert to speech are processed on our infrastructure to provide results.
- On-device preferences — language and theme settings are stored locally on your device.
- No ads or data brokerage — we do not use your data for third-party advertising or sell personal information to data brokers.
2) App permissions — what we access and why
The App requests device access only for features you use:
- Microphone — record speech for speech-to-text. Audio is sent to our service when you start transcription.
- Camera — capture photos of text for OCR. Images are sent when you choose to recognize text.
- Photos / media library — select images for OCR or audio files for transcription. Content is uploaded only when you attach or pick a file.
- Network access — connect to Monlam AI APIs, show offline status, and open this privacy policy in your browser.
You can revoke permissions in your device settings; related features may stop working.
2a) Android permissions (typical declarations)
Common Android declarations include:

READ_MEDIA_IMAGES/ storage-related permissions (device-dependent) — pick images or documents you choose to attach via system file pickers.
Exact permissions depend on your Android version and the features you use. They are not used for ads or cross-app tracking.
2b) iOS usage descriptions
On iOS, the App may show system permission prompts with purposes such as:
- Camera — capture Tibetan text for OCR.
- Microphone — record audio for speech transcription.
- Photo library — select images for OCR.
3) Data collection and processing
Content you provide (processed on our servers)
- Translation — source text, selected languages, and optional dictionary lookup terms sent to our chat/translation APIs.
- Speech-to-text — audio you record or files you upload (for example WAV, MP3, M4A, OGG, FLAC, WebM) sent for transcription.
- Text-to-speech — text you enter and voice options sent to generate audio; you may save output to your device (for example your Downloads folder on Android) when you choose to download.
- OCR — images you capture or upload (for example PNG, JPG, WebP, TIFF, HEIC) sent for text recognition.
We process this content to return results to your device. Depending on configuration, our systems may retain request logs or content for a limited period for abuse prevention, debugging, and service reliability. Contact us if you have questions about retention for a specific feature.
Technical and request data
- Standard HTTP metadata (for example IP address, timestamps, device/browser user-agent strings sent by your network stack) when you call our APIs.
- Non-user-identifying request headers such as an organization API key and idempotency keys used to authenticate and safely retry API calls from the App build.
Stored on your device
- Language preference (English or Tibetan).
- Theme preference (system, light, or dark).
- Temporary files for recording, playback, or downloads you initiate.
The App includes infrastructure for secure storage that may be used for future sign-in features; the current public release does not require account registration.
What we do not collect in the current App version
- No in-app user accounts, passwords, or social sign-in flows in the current release.
- No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the App.
- No precise location collection.
- No contacts, calendar, or SMS access.
4) How we use information
- Provide translation, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, OCR, and dictionary-assisted translation.
- Operate, secure, and improve the Monlam AI service and APIs.
- Detect abuse, fraud, or technical issues.
- Respond to support and privacy requests.
- Comply with applicable law.
5) Sharing with third parties
We use cloud and infrastructure providers to host APIs and process AI workloads. They access data only to perform services for us under contractual confidentiality and security obligations.
When you use Share or open links outside the App, you choose what to send to other apps or websites; their privacy practices apply separately.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger or acquisition, subject to applicable notice requirements.
We do not sell personal information.
6) Data retention & deletion
Server-side retention depends on the feature and our operational needs (for example log rotation, abuse prevention, and model quality). Contact us at monlamtech@gmail.com to ask about deletion of content associated with a specific request, where feasible.
Local preferences and temporary files are removed when you clear app storage or uninstall the App. Files you saved to Downloads or shared elsewhere remain under your control on the device or in the destination app.
7) Children’s privacy
Monlam AI is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal data through the App.
8) Your rights (EEA/UK, California, and similar)
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability. You can change language and theme in the App, revoke device permissions, uninstall the App, or email us. We respond within a reasonable time as required by law.
Where applicable, we rely on contract (providing the service you request), legitimate interests (security and improvement), consent (device permissions), and legal obligation.
9) Security
We use technical and organizational measures including HTTPS for API traffic. Data stored on your device uses platform storage APIs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Collection is not used for third-party advertising. Users are not required to create an account in the current release.
11) International transfers
We and our providers may process information in countries other than yours. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
12) Changes to this policy
We may update this policy for new features (for example account sign-in), legal requirements, or clearer disclosures. We will change the “Last updated” date on this page. Material changes may be communicated in the App or as required by law.
